Here is my first of several contribution to "Ska History Month" started by Andrew, AKA CA_SKA...
Part 1 is about the original ska, straight out the streets of Kingston...ska music was born in Jamaica in the late 1950s/early 1960s, combining the influences of American jazz, r&b, jump blues, and the traditional mento and calypso floating around the Caribbean at that time.
Today's playlist is a sample of just some of the tunes coming out of Jamaica at that time...
Tommy McCook - Freedom Sounds
Justin Hinds & The Dominoes - Carry, Go, Bring, Come
The Maytals - I'll Never Grow Old
Bob Marley & The Wailers - One Love
Byron Lee & The Dragonaires - Jamaican Ska
Prince Buster & Slim Smith - The Prophet
Laurel Aitken - Let My People Go
Desmond Dekker - King of Ska
Don Drummond - Ska Town
Derrick Morgan - Starvation
Derrick Harriot - Monkey Ska
